THE PROCESS

When we work together, you'll hear me use terms like "pre-production, production and post-production". These 3 terms represent the 3 phases of filmmaking, you can look at these 3 phases as the "beginning, middle and end." Here I will breakdown what each phase consists of so that way you know exactly what to expect when we start our first project.

PRE-PRODUCTION

Also known as "pre-planning", this stage is where we conceptualize your video, write the script, scout locations, research music, storyboard, create call sheets and schedule the shoot.

This phase is all about preparation. The more prepared we are, the smoother our production will be. We will be on the same page about what it is we want to achieve, as well as a clear vision of how this project will turn out in the end and what results will come out of it.

Many filmmakers over look this phase or don't invest enough time into this area, this definitely sets me apart because I've seen the value of being prepared and how it impacts the results of the final product.

PRODUCTION

2

The production phase is all about the video shoot. On the day of the shoot, whether it's a one day, two day or three day shoot, my crew and I show up to the location and load in / set up all of our equipment for the day. This can include lights, cameras, lenses, audio equipment and everything in between. This process usually takes 30 minutes to an hour.

As the director, I will start communicating with everybody about the schedule for the day and go over what the first shot / set up will be. I make sure everyone is on the same page and move things along to stay on schedule.

Depending on what we are shooting, the actual filming will take anywhere from 4 to 8 hours. So, when we first discuss your project, we will determine if your project needs a half day (5 hours) or a full day (8 - 12 hours). The minimum is 5 hours because in my experience in this industry, it always takes longer than expected. So if in our minds we think we could do it in 3 hours, let's just call it 5 as a buffer so that we can create a stress-free environment and focus on what's most important: telling your story.

Once we capture everything, we will start breaking down and loading out of the location. This process usually takes another 30 minutes to an hour. So all together with load in, filming to breakdown and load out, we are looking at 5 to 6 hours for even a basic shoot, this is very standard in the industry.

POST-PRODUCTION

We have arrived to the final phase; the editing. Editing is where I take all of our footage, audio, voice over, music and piece it all together to tell the story.

It's many hours of editing footage together, trimming down the music to fit our allotted time, mix the music with the voice over and sound effects, color correction, color grading and exporting the master file for you to start using.

With every project, a few revisions are expected. So what I do first is send you a rough cut of your full video. A rough cut means the footage is raw (not graded), the music and sound effects are roughly mixed and perhaps there are no titles yet. At this time, you can give me feedback on any cuts you want me to adjust or shots that you want me to move or replace. I will then make all the proper adjustments according to my expertise and once you finalize the rough cut I will lock that in and move forward with color grading, adding titles and completing the sound design.

At this point, you can make your final notes and that brings us to the final cut. I export the high definition video file for you to start using in your business. Congratulations!

This process is used for any type of project. Whether that's a commercial, music video or video ad, the process is always the same in terms of these 3 key phases.

Depending on your project, there will be some differences in the scope. So, to get the most clear picture of what your process will look like, contact me today to discover exactly what
